Discipline Lead – Protective Coatings

Peter Leaf has over 25 years of experience in construction and engineering, serving clients on a variety of projects ranging from the development of specifications to materials and corrosion technical assurance through all phases of major capital projects. He has written coatings specifications for Shell and Hess, and has worked extensively with their GOM operations on technological and strategic improvements for fabric maintenance. He is currently Hess’s technical authority (TA) for protective coatings, and also supports Viking’s materials & corrosion TA role at Hess, where he has written numerous technical notes on equipment failures and corrosion-related topics.

Education:

Peter studied history of science and mathematics, philosophy, and literature at Saint John’s College in Santa Fe, NM, graduating with a BA in Liberal Arts.

He obtained teacher’s certification in physics, chemistry, general science, and English at Dillard University in New Orleans, LA, and later completed some graduate work in environmental science and chemistry at the University of New Orleans.

He holds several professional certifications in the field of corrosion: NACE CP1—Cathodic Protection Tester, NACE Certified Coating Inspector—Level 3 (Peer Review), and NACE Senior Corrosion Technologist.
