Life Extension & Fitness for Service

What risk based inspection is used for depends on what the intent is. When RBI is applied to operating design life, it can be used for life extension of equipment of an entire facility or a single vessel.

Life extension is a comprehensive review of a facility or vessel to determine if improvements are required, and what is needed to extend the operational life. When done at the facility level, multiple aspects from structural and electrical, to materials and rotating equipment, as well as other aspects are evaluated. Criteria can be set for potential different or similar reservoir fluids and operations, or other needs as required. Risk assessments are coupled with cost estimate to assist with the project decision whether to go forward or not with the life extension or only part of it.

Fitness-For-Service Assessment

Fitness for service is designed to evaluate a facility or vessel for use in its current state. Process changes can lead to unexpected corrosion or operating limits being exceeded. When this happens, vessels need to be evaluated to confirm that they are still fit for service. By looking at the materials of construction, operating history, current conditions/fluids, then evaluating risk/consequence/probability, Viking can help evaluate if vessels can be used safely.
