We’re Up For Any Challenge
Energy projects are large and complex. Navigating the maze of complex, interrelated interfaces is a daunting task for any team - especially small teams. We’re here to help you fill in the gaps.
3 Brands for 3 Different Passions
By staying 3 distinct brands, we are able to encapsulate three different mindsets to the way project success is achieved thereby creating 3 distinct cultures.
Our GATE Energy arm is dedicated to full project delivery. With the high-risk nature of construction and commissioning, the culture is centered around making sure everyone – from our staff to your employees - goes home safely at the end of the day. Safety is our commander’s intent.
Our Viking Engineering arm is dedicated to analysis and finding the truth. It takes innovation and dedication to seeing the “big picture” to reverse engineer a client’s desired outcome. You’ll feel their passion for solving difficult problems from the start.
Our BlueFin arm is dedicated to pre-commissioning, maintenance and decommissioning activities. This group relies on being responsive and communicative on and off the project, so you feel heard and understood.
Merging into a larger company would defeat our ability to remain nimble and agile. These smaller companies can make quicker adjustments to operational processes, optimizing efficiency and reducing bureaucratic hurdles.
Our branded cultures also allow our people to be heard and feel like they have a voice in a company that values the way they think.
When we need to come together, we can, because we all have the same core values at heart:
We think with a systems approach
We actively break down walls
We interact as servant leaders
We are proud of our 3 brands and proud to produce predictable projects – safe projects that are on budget, on schedule, and operate as intended.
Benefits of Working with an ESOP
As of June 2023, GATE Energy, BlueFin and Viking are 100% employee-owned Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOP) operated as a trust for the benefit of its employees. We are now a new business, with new owners, whose formation has opened new possibilities for how we do our work and how we plan and build for the future.
We now operate in a very different place to many of our larger competitors and clients. Their performance is often focused on the next quarter and the need to control immediate changes in share price.
Similarly, we have also diverged from many of our more immediate competitors whose strategy is to grow and sell without worrying much about what happens post-transaction, or to carry on until the current owners retire with little to no thought to the future after that.
GATE Energy sees ownership as a key motivational and alignment tool for employees. Employees who have a stake in the company work harder and are more rewarded.
From a client's perspective, the value of working with an ESOP company entails having staff with a true sense of ownership, continuity of top talent, continuous improvement, commitment to safety, collaboration, and quality delivery.
All employees have a stake in the future growth of the company, staying true to our values, and building dedicated relationships with our clients.
The ESOP is a powerful tool to retain top talent and continue to grow through the energy transition – which means continuity and innovation for your projects.
Our Commitments to You
-
We will never trade safety for progress. We not only care about our employees but also your employees. We want everyone to go home safely at the end of the day.
-
We ask lots of questions to discover your highest priorities. Listening and understanding your problem from the beginning is the key to designing the right team, the correct plan and producing quality work and ultimately a successful project. We work closely with you to mitigate blind spots, yours and ours.
-
We don’t apply a volume of individuals to a challenge just cause that’s how it was done before. We reverse engineer your desired outcome to find only the expertise needed and design the right team to complete the challenge. We employee diverse teams of people with diverse backgrounds in diverse industries.
-
If we plan beforehand and produce quality work, we mitigate rework and project failure. We ensure quality is built into every step throughout project execution. We believe projects have goals to achieve, not just processes to follow and checkboxes to check. We adapt to fit the specific goal.
-
We pride ourselves on being able to give quick answers – especially when you need to get back up and running.
-
Projects are ever changing. Every project is different with different needs and challenges. We adapt and work with you so that you get what you need.
-
We try to be as transparent as possible and appreciate reciprocation. We'll always be a straight talker. We’ll give you the bad news, spot the opportunities for your improvement and communicate them. We are a fact-based, data-driven company - we call it as we see it. Data allows us to identify issues early and create better upfront planning.
Safety Is Ingrained into Our Culture
The commitment of our staff to our Quality Management and HSSE Policies is considered to be a critical aspect of delivering projects and services to you safely, effectively and efficiently. Our IMS policy represents the foundation of this commitment to undertake our work safely, responsively, correctly and with a duty of care to our staff, you and your employees and the wider community.
All of our companies are ISO certified.
GATE Energy has formally obtained certification to the requirements of ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and we are also the first company in North America to be certified by DNV-GL to the ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System standard. The certification ensures that we focus on doing it right the first time, both in the quality of work that we provide and in the relentless pursuit of delivering zero incident projects for ourselves and our clients.
BlueFin is also certified to ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System standard.
These certifications recognize the use of a systematic process-based approach to quality and safety management, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement in core business areas.
*ISO 45001 was published in March 2018 to reflect the latest global best practices for health and safety program delivery and replaces the older OHSAS 18001 standard.
