Over 5 million man-hours safely worked… and counting…
GATE places a strong emphasis on Doing It Right The First Time.
Lessons learned from our past projects have shown that more commissioning oversight is required during both the engineering and the construction phases to ensure that quality and operability are maintained throughout the project life cycle.
That is why we propose early involvement in the project to facilitate a systematic, efficient and flawless transfer from contractor to operations.
We recognize that every project has many interdependencies between each function. By getting involved early in the project, we can manage these links and fully understand, adjust and adapt to Project and Operations strategies and priorities throughout the life cycle of the project and into steady state operations. GATE is committed to providing high quality services to support the activities of our Clients.
Planning & Commissioning Management
GATE has expertise in facility design, planning and execution of commissioning and startup operations, as well as being able to provide on-site technical support during well unloading and commissioning activities. This enables a rapid response capability to unexpected events and the ability to transfer learnings to our clients.
GATE’s ability and proven track record to our client delivers a sound process to carry Mechanical Completion to Static/Dynamic Commissioning completion thus ensuring a trouble-free starup.
During the commissioning planning phase of a project, the GATE commissioning team authors and reviews relevant plans that will be utilized in facilitating and documenting the mechanical completion (MC), static commissioning, dynamic commissioning and startup preparation activities of the facility. These activities are incorporated into the integrated project schedule.
Offshore commissioning services provided by the GATE Commissioning team includes:
Commissioning Planning, Management and Execution
Full Service Execution or Client Representative Oversight

Equipment Preservation & Management
GATE offers full preservation planning, management and execution in coordination with all typical commissioning services. Equipment preservation methodologies are recommended to be an early project lifecycle deliverable and should be implemented as early in the lifecycle of the component as possible, with an active plan to address preservation during transport, storage, construction, hook-up and commissioning activities.
The objective of the Hook-up and Commissioning Preservation Plan is to provide a preservation and maintenance strategy in which the following can be completed successfully:
All equipment, materials and systems are properly preserved during all phases of the project, before being put into service.
Stakeholders understand the necessary preservation requirements to be executed during the preservation campaign.
All preservation personnel are aligned with project requirements, philosophy and procedures to achieve a successful preservation campaign.
Status of equipment being preserved and any issues needing attention can be viewed and managed in near ‘real-time’ via use of a fit-for-purpose preservation management system.
GATE recommends and has had success utilizing a digital management system for preservation which incorporates Inspection and Test Records (ITRs) for equipment preservation tracking. Pairing these ITRs with a systems completion philosophy and system, such as Omega Pims, ensures timely and confident preservation schedules.
All preservation activities are fully documented to provide traceability and ensure optimum equipment performance, aiding in an efficient commissioning and startup campaign.

Umbilical Commissioning
Due to the fast track nature of Projects, GATE provides a project tailored Subsea Systems Completion process to enable traceability of mechanical completion through commissioning in order to optimize handover of the facilities to the Operator. This is achieved by working with the Operator early in Project Development and understanding the requirements.
GATE Subsea IHUC activities include the pigging, testing, hook-up (static / dynamic) and commissioning of flowline / riser and controls systems from topsides to shore. As such, IHUC activities have multiple complex engineering, scheduling, ownership and scope interfaces between Well Engineering, Topsides and Subsea Facilities Design and the Operator.
IHUC services include:
Chemical / Preservation Compatibility Studies
Umbilical Axial Mixing Modelling
Umbilical Displacement Planning and Execution
GATE Umbilical Commissioning Axial Mixing Model
Recognizing the need for a proactive and fit-for-purpose approach to umbilical pre-commissioning and commissioning services, GATE has developed and successfully utilized the GATE Axial Mixing Model to provide clients with confident and economical plans for umbilical commissioning activities. Looking at the full system and not simply line volumes for testing and commissioning activities, fluid properties are used to analyze chemical compatibility / displacement optimizations, flowrates and pressure drops, over flush requirements due to fluid mixing and equipment verification where the pros and cons of utilizing topsides permanent equipment (if available) versus temporary equipment are presented and recommendations made.
By utilizing the GATE Axial Mixing Model, over flush volumes are calculated intentionally rather than by a “rule of thumb” as many competitors may rely upon. What this has proven for GATE Commissioning is a 100% success record with zero incidents and a number of cost saving examples where the recommendations based on model results were substantially less volume than what would traditionally be called for without similar evaluation. Pairing this analysis using the GATE Axial Mixing Model with the services provided by BlueFin, a GATE Energy Company, our clients have built a trust in our umbilical commissioning services that has led to a number of sole sourced awards knowing GATE will deliver the safest, most economical and confident umbilical commissioning services in the industry.
