About GATE Energy

SCALABLE, FIT-FOR-PURPOSE SERVICES FOR THE ENERGY INDUSTRY

GATE Energy is a 100% Employee-owned ESOP and family of companies that provide scalable, fit-for-purpose services for the energy sector including engineering, commissioning and specialty field services. We consist of 3 companies: GATE Energy, Viking Engineering and BlueFin.

In contrast to other consulting and service firms, GATE Energy's philosophy is based on taking an operators prospective to a problem and not limiting ourselves to a specific discipline. This results in solutions that transcend discipline boundaries and provide fit-for-purpose answers to real operating challenges.

Our main objective is making sure that we integrate our energy expertise with our client's desired outcome for safe and effective project delivery.  Small projects. Large projects. Complex projects. Every Project. Every Time.

Our Mission:

Make Sure It Works Right The First Time

Why worry about delivering projects right the first time?

Energy fuels everyday life as we know it. The success of our projects impacts our society and we owe it to society to deliver energy efficiently.

Energy projects are often large and complex - just look at one offshore platform. Interfaces are numerous and coordination may now be the most important factor for successful delivery. Yet, too often we are left with installations that are designed in isolation that then require much time, effort and money for us to figure out how to operate them.

Is this the definition of success? We don’t think so.

As a uniquely positioned family of companies, we integrate our energy expertise with our Client's desired outcome for safe and effective project delivery. We understand that every project brings a new suite of challenges throughout its lifecycle. By considering the "big picture", we can provide fit-for-purpose solutions to specific projects or problems. We work hard to make projects work right because we want our Clients to succeed.

It’s time we work together to break down the silos, share lessons learned and see the big picture. Because together, we can make it work right the first time.

Our History

Since being founded in 2000, GATE promotes a systems-level view of engineering problems. Even in our smaller projects, such as working discrete process or corrosion issues, taking a larger view of the interactions and intricacies of the system as a whole enables us to develop an optimized solution that crosses many different disciplines and boundaries.

Since 2000, we have expanded to 200+ technical staff and contractors with employees located in-house with major operators, as well as in our Houston and other Texas locations, Louisiana locations, and our international locations in Singapore and South Korea.

This takes personnel with a broad knowledge of production systems and the challenges involved in designing, constructing, commissioning and operating them. Our goal is to provide engineering solutions to the energy industry that allow our clients to make informed financial decisions. We aim to provide these solutions through the high caliber of our staff and strong relationships with our customers. We take on projects at any stage from design of new developments to troubleshooting of mature fields.

Our expertise enables us to provide balanced oil and gas services to our Clients that ensures the interfaces between various disciplines are adequately recognized and addressed. This results in smoother facility startups, and increased whole-life value for existing developments.

What Does 100% Employee-Owned ESOP mean for Our Clients?

As of June 2023, GATE Energy is a 100% employee-owned Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) operated as a trust for the benefit of its employees. The ESOP marks the turning of a critical page in the history of GATE Energy and the family of companies that it represents. We are now a new business, with new owners, whose formation has opened new possibilities for how we do our work and how we plan and build for the future.

We now operate in a very different place to many of our larger competitors and clients. Their performance is often focused on the next quarter and the need to control immediate changes in share price. Similarly, we have also diverged from many of our more immediate competitors whose strategy is to grow and sell without worrying much about what happens post-transaction, or to carry on until the current owners retire with little to no thought to the future after that.

GATE Energy sees ownership as a key motivational and alignment tool for employees and management. An ESOP also:

  • Incentivizes employees to see the business grow and prosper

  • Aligns with our values and a people-first culture

  • Rewards employees at all levels

  • Ensures everyone across all companies and the globe is aligned with what is best for all

From a client's perspective, the value of working with an ESOP company entails having staff with a true sense of ownership, continuity of top talent, continuous improvement, commitment to safety, collaboration, and quality delivery.  All employees have a stake in the future growth of the company, staying true to our values, and building dedicated clients. The ESOP is a powerful tool to retain top talent and continue to grow through the energy transition.

Our Commitment to Doing it Right the FIRST TIME

The commitment of GATE staff to our Quality Management and HSSE Policies is considered to be a critical aspect of delivering projects and services to our Clients safely, effectively and efficiently. Our IMS policy represents the foundation of this commitment to undertake our work safely, responsively, correctly and with a duty of care to our staff, our Clients and the wider community.

First Recipient of ISO 45001 & Certified ISO 9001

To ensure that we focus on doing it right the first time, both in the quality of work that we provide and in the relentless pursuit of delivering zero incident projects for ourselves and our clients, GATE has formally obtained certification to the requirements of ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and we are also the first company in North America to be certified by DNV-GL to the ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System standard. ISO 45001 was published in March 2018 to reflect the latest global best practices for health and safety program delivery and replaces the older OHSAS 18001 standard.

These certifications recognize the use of a systematic process-based approach to quality and safety management, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement in GATE’s core delivery areas of Engineering, Commissioning and Startup, and Marine Risk Management.
